Scientific evidence: All conclusions and recommendations are grounded in scientific rigor and verified data.

Transparency: A commitment to full scientific openness, including the public disclosure of research methodologies, and results, and the free and unrestricted accessibility of all resulting publications in line with recognised international open‑access principles.

Planetary health and social equity: Enhancing quality of life for all people, preserving and enriching biodiversity, and ensuring social equity in the global use of resources.

Circular bioeconomy: Driving the transition to a resource-efficient, regenerative system that integrates construction and land-use.

Re-use and cascade principle: Prioritizing the efficient use of limited resources by ensuring that wood and other bio-based materials are applied in their highest-value and longest-lasting applications.

International understanding: Fostering ethical, non-exploitative global partnerships, ensuring that research and business practices respect regional and indigenous knowledge, prioritizing equitable capacity building, and promoting scientific and economic collaboration across national boundaries for the benefit of all humanity.

Independence: The Alliance is based on openness and trust, mutually respecting each other as equal partners. Although the Alliance will define collaborative action, partners retain their independence and reserve the right to disagree. IIASA does not provide consultancy services or commissioned research within the framework of the Alliance.

Biodiversity: Integrating biodiversity considerations into forest management processes and timber provision is essential.
